The PCD lineage, denoted haplogroup A2b, forms three separate subclades in our analyses (figures 1b and 2b): (1) A2b1 that includes the ancient dogs from the Koster site, dogs ranging in age from approximately 4000 to 1000 years old from throughout North America, California's Channel Islands and into South America, as well as a group of modern dog breeds, (2) A2b2 that groups dogs from mainly the Janey B. Goode site in Illinois and Scioto Caverns in Ohio, in addition to older dogs, greater Proceedings B (to Royal Society Open Science, Biology Letters, Open Biology or Interface) Transfers may be offered when an article does not meet the scope requirement of the original journal. Editors' comments and reviewer reports on the article are transferred over and will be available to the editorial team of the receiving journal. ASVs identified as Methylococcales, an aerobic methane-oxidizing bacteria, increased in their proportional abundance from 0.33 ± 0.17% in 2012 to 0.83 ± 0.53% in 2016. Methylococcales ASVs were also present at the reference site, reaching a maximum of 0.35 ± 0.37% of the community at 1 cm sediment depth. Proceedings B is the Royal Society’s flagship biological research journal, accepting original articles and reviews of outstanding scientific importance and broad general interest.
