Ledebouria revoluta. Asparagaceae. Go! Complete name: Ledebouria revoluta (L.f.) Jessop. Family, Genus, Species, Species Parrain. Asparagaceae

8241

There are quite a lot of cultivars recognized for this species: Ledebouria socialis 'Juda' has white and pink leaf edges. Ledebouria socialis 'Laxifolia' has green floppy leaves and was originally described as a separate species in 1897.

Origin These diminutive little bulbs are from South Africa and the name honors German botanist Dr. Carl F. von Ledebour (1785-1851). It was formerly called scilla, named in 1870 by John Gilbert Baker and 100 years later, the name was changed to ledebouria by John Peter Jessop. The name Ledebouria socialis 'Zebrina' was proposed for this plant that has previously been called Ledebouria socialis var. nana or Scilla violacea var. nana. This is a little unfortunate as it potentially could lead to confusion with another valid species, Ledebouria zebrina, the Striped Giant False Scilla. Roth described the genus Ledebouria in 1821 with Ledebouria hyacinthi- na Roth, from India, as the type species.

Ledebouria is a genus of African bulbous perennial herbs in the Asparagus family, Asparagaceae, subfamily Scilloideae. Most members were previously part of the genus Scilla . A number of species are grown by cacti and succulent enthusiasts for their patterned leaves.

This plant has well deserved a reputation for being an easy and forgiving plant which is tolerant of lower light levels, (making it better suited to interior spaces than many other succulents).
